This household should be eating more seafood, is what my mom always say. We eat a lot of meat, chicken and veggies, but we still have to make a habit of including seafood in our weekly budget. My mom scolds us when she learns we haven’t cooked fish within a week. She’s such a huge fish fan, see. And I can’t blame her, seafood is one of the healthiest and tastiest food available in the wet market. How healthy you say? Let’s you and I learn together:
- Seafood is very rich in important vitamins and minerals that our body needs for growth and normal functioning (iodine, zinc, potassium and phosphorus).
- Seafood is low in fat. What fat they contain is even beneficial for the heart and prevent some cancers (Omega-3).
- Seafood is high in protein and is comparable to the protein given by meat and chicken.
- Seafood is good for pregnant women because of the iron it contains, essential for the baby’s growth and development.
My sister just purchased an oven the other day, and we realized we can cut our unhealthy oil consumption in half by cooking things in the oven (bake everything, is our new motto). So while we’re at it, why not have baked seafood? I eagerly await our next market day and we will definitely have several kilos of seafood in our refrigerator after it.
Have I told you that corn is my comfort food? If you’ve been reading any of my blogs in the past, you’d say “Yes, more times than I care to know”, and it would be true. I cannot remember how many times I’ve written it before (well to tell you the truth I can hardly remember anything I’ve published I might have been contradicting myself and not even realize it), but I’m going to say it again: I LOVE CORN. Its chewy texture and mildly sweet flavor makes me feel.. safe. Like I’m home.
