Health Benefits of Corn

Have I told you that corn is my comfort food? If you’ve been reading any of my blogs in the past, you’d say “Yes, more times than I care to know”, and it would be true. I cannot remember how many times I’ve written it before (well to tell you the truth I can hardly remember anything I’ve published I might have been contradicting myself and not even realize it), but I’m going to say it again: I LOVE CORN. Its chewy texture and mildly sweet flavor makes me feel.. safe. Like I’m home.

To justify my almost everyday corn craving, I did some reading on its health benefits. I already knew that it’s not bad for the human race, otherwise I would have died a long time ago. But I needed hard facts, so here’s what I know so far:

  • Corn is high on fiber. Which just means bye-bye constipation and hemorrhoids if you include this in your daily diet.
  • Corn contains lots of minerals. I cannot specify which (mineral names always confuse me) but they’re essential for bone health, normal growth and proper kidney function.
  • Corn is good for the heart. It prevents the risk of heart diseases.
  • Corn is also good for the eyes. It’s rich in lutein, and maybe the biggest contributory factor as to why my eyesight is still perfect even if I read in the dark (just sometimes, mom).

Are you amaized yet? I am. And it’s not even a complete list of all the goods thing corn can do for your health. The health experts are saying it, it’s a vital part of one’s daily diet. Who am I to disagree?

i like it naman kerneled and mixed with salad. Im not into dressings kasi, so the natural sweetness of corn is enough to bring taste to the usually bland greens.

Have a great weekend Momi Kaye!!
