GT: Food For The Holidays
Last Thursday of September and we’re still talking about food. The holidays are just around the corner, so our prompt for the week is really relevant. Especially for those of us, errr.. I mean you who plan as early as now what to serve family and guests on the coming special occasions. I don’t have any illusions of a plan, because I don’t cook. Well, I can, but I’m not sure I will have any family left if they made me the chef in charge.
I’m going to get real here for a moment and admit that one of the parts I look forward to during the holiday season is the eating part of it. Which is also why sellers of diet pills go all out marketing their stuff during the season, because they know for a fact that people tend to put their diet regimen in the backseat (some like me put it in the trunk and drive the car off a cliff) and people will start their crazy dieting again after the holidays are over. For the record, I don’t do pills. I just stare at my butt and my middle, sigh, and hope against hope that my jeans still fit.
The food I look most forward to during the holidays is the, well, everything. I simply cannot pick a favorite. If you asked me this question about fifteen years back, my answer would be ham. Well, this just goes to show that as I age, the less I care about what’s served during the holidays. I remember when I used to cry when mom would taunt me that there would be no ham for Christmas or New Year’s Eve. I would be devastated. But of course there’ll be ham. In fact, several of them. And then I’ll feel like the holidays are complete.
