GT: Cry Me A River
Hello girls! Yes, I know I am super late in posting this, but the whole family just got back from an unplanned overnight stay at a water park in Nangalisan, Benguet (will blog about that later, it’s HEAVEN in there), and I didn’t think to schedule a post in advance because, well, the getaway was unexpected. But so much for that. Let’s get on to this week’s topic, songs that make us girls cry. And no, Justin Timberlake’s song “Cry Me A River” is not my song of choice. I just thought it’d be a fun title for this post. Hee hee.
So what song makes me cry? Well, this one doesn’t make me cry every time I hear it although I’m naturally a cry baby, but this is a really, really sad song that gets to me. It’s called Brick by Ben Folds Five. The singer explained himself what the song is about:
People ask me what this song’s about… I was asked about it a lot, and I didn’t really wanna make a big hairy deal out of it, because I just wanted the song to speak for itself. But the song is about when I was in high school, me and my girlfriend had to get an abortion, and it was a very sad thing. And, I didn’t really want to write this song from any kind of political standpoint, or make a statement. I just wanted to reflect what it feels like. So, anyone who’s gone through that before, then you’ll know what the song’s about.
From Songfacts.com: Folds has also said that neither teen wanted their parents to know, so Ben ended up taking most of the presents he received that Christmas and selling them at a pawn shop so he and his girlfriend could afford the abortion.
Don’t worry, not on autoplay this time. But it’s really a good song (albeit sad) so I highly suggest listening to it. I grabbed the one with the lyrics.
