$1.5 Million Red Tibetan Mastiff

Is the world’s most expensive dog. Recently bought by an unnamed coal baron from North China, he is currently the poster dog for the filthy rich animal lovers around the world. “Big Splash”, as the mastiff is called, is two and a half times more expensive than the previous title holder, also a mastiff called Yangtze River Number Two. The latter’s owner is either seriously in love with his pet or is just a plain show-off because Yangtze River Number Two was chauffeured home by a motorcade of thirty black limousines. Really now.

The breeder of Big Splash was quoted to have said that he could see the coal baron loved the puppy, or the breeder would not have sold him. For some reason, I cannot believe that. Call me a cynic, but I really doubt that. The breeder mentioned in the next breath that the coal baron thought Big Splash was a good investment. Love and investment, all rolled into one? I didn’t think so. Oh well, it’s his dog and money. I just feel sorry for the poor mastiff.
