Google’s Foray Into Fashion

Posted on 19. Nov, 2010 by in fashion finds, what's hot

I discovered Boutiques.com today while reading another totally unrelated article on Google News. Boutiques.com (still in Beta) is a Google-owned fashion e-commerce site which uses human curators (celebrities, stylists, designers and fashion bloggers), visual recognition and machine learning technology to recommend items to shoppers. Note that the site doesn’t actually sell fashion items. It just directs the user to hundreds of online merchants in its database. Perfect timing, because the holiday season is here, and what better way to spend one’s hard-earned money than to splurge on making oneself look good?

What I love most about the site is that it lets us take a peek on the wardrobe choices of celebrities, by going to the respective celebrities’ boutiques. I of course went first to Carey Mulligan’s boutique, and I must say I love all of her choices! However, the thing I noticed that is glaringly lacking was men’s fashion. I didn’t see a singly guy’s boutique in there. Well, since the site is still in Beta, we can expect more improvements on the site in the months to come.

Certainly, Boutiques.com is a must-visit for every fashionista out there, or even those who are clueless about fashion, as you can learn a lot about the fashion sense of celebrities by scanning their choices.
