On Choosing Skirts

As with any part of our wardrobe, choosing a skirt that will look good on us can sometimes be a hard decision to make (especially very early in the morning when not all of your body parts, i.e. brain, are functioning 100%. So yes. It is a good idea to prepare your outfit the night before). Being a WAHM now, I don’t have problems anymore about choosing what to wear everyday. I can wear pajamas and torn t-shirts to work daily and nobody would give a flying fark. Well, at least people in my household wouldn’t. However, I, too, was an office girl for a couple of years before I landed this awesome job of being a WAHM, so I know how it feels like to be frustrated by having to make day-to-day decisions on what to wear. I didn’t wear skirts often back in those days, but when I do, I opt for the minis because I like to show off my legs. Haha! No. Seriously, I like mini skirts because I can move freely in them.

Cerruti Fall 2010 RTW Vanessa Hegelmaier (IMG)I read in some articles about how to choose skirt lengths, which will depend mainly on your body type (and of course, your age [if it's still acceptable to wear that kind of skirt!] and your fashion sense). The mini skirts that I like to wear obviously makes the legs look longer since it exposes more skin, so it is a must for people with short legs. Another tip I read was to wear skirts with details that are close to the waistline in order to draw attention away from the short legs. If you have wide hips, lengthwise designs on a skirt and/or high-waisted skirts will work wonders on you, while for those with a flat behind, details or pockets at the back of the skirt will help create an illusion of a big derriere, as well as full skirts. Finally, A-line skirts are recommended for those with boyish body-types.

However, the bottom line should be how comfortable are you in wearing a skirt of your choice. Don’t you wear it to please others. Wear a skirt to please yourself.
