GT: Thursday Funnies
Thursday again! Last week it’s all about the sob stories, so let’s do the opposite this week and post about the funniest books we’ve already read. Okay, so let me start the ball rolling. FYI, I am craaazy over chick lit, because most of the time, the stories are laugh out loud funny. My all-time idol when it comes to this genre? Why Sophie Kinsella of course! Because she gave life to my über favorite heroine, Rebecca ‘Becky’ Brandon (nee Bloomwood). I really cannot pick any particular book from the Shopaholic series, because I luuurve all of them!

Ever since the Shopaholic series, I’ve been seriously in love with this woman’s writing, so much so that every time she comes out with a new book, I make sure I immediately have a copy of it to read. I am trying to read Kinsella’s writing as Madeleine Wickham (her real name, by the way) now, and have just finished Sleeping Arrangements, but, well, I still like Bloomwood and I would be thrilled if Kinsella comes out with yet another book in the series.
And no, I don’t read foreigners’ writings exclusively. I do read a lot of Filipino authors, and a couple of them in the funny category I truly adore, namely, Jessica Zafra and Bob Ong. If you don’t know them, the former writes in English while the latter chooses Tagalog as his medium. Zafra is the reason why I write the way I write, that’s how much I idolize her. And yes, I am guilty of owning a copy of all the books in her Twisted series.
Now Bob Ong, he inspired me to write in my mother tongue. Sadly, I realized I am way out of his league, that I cannot write as effectively in Tagalog as I can in English. And so I humbly accepted my fate and resorted to just reading his books over and over again. Hee hee. I have read all of his seven published books, and is eagerly awaiting for next month, when his newest writing is expected to hit the bookstores.
Hmm.. I think I just discussed the authors and not their books! LOL. Oh well. I honestly can’t pick one particular book from any of these authors because take my word for it, they are frigging geniuses. And please don’t read their books while in a public place. I’ve tried and I ended up with people staring at me like I’m some kind of lunatic because I couldn’t help but laugh out loud while reading them. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Hee hee.
How about you? I’m in the mood for laughing, after so much crying over your suggestions last week. I’m sure all the other girls are still hungry for more books, too. So why don’t you show us what’s on your funniest list this week? Join in the weekly fun! Just make a post with this week’s topic, link up to the EXACT URL of your entry and hop to other girls’ blog to see what book/s they are featuring this week! That’s how you play Girls Talk! And please, NO SPAM!
