Nail Salon Charges More For Overweight Customer

Posted on 10. Sep, 2010 by in gossip girl, something green this way comes

Talk about ultimate rudeness. I was browsing the net when I stumbled upon an article that reported about a DeKalb County, Georgia salon charging a customer an extra $5 for her manicure-pedicure—because she’s overweight. The reason given by the manager is so that she can supplement future repairs to the establishment’s pedicure chairs (which according to the manager have a weight limit of 200 pounds). The customer was able to talk her way out of the surprise charge, but the manager told her in effect to not go back in there ever.

I am a business management graduate so I feel horrible about this incident, because if there’s one thing I’ve learned in the university, it is the importance of customer service. I’m far from being overweight, but sometimes I think I should be charged extra because I’m taller than most girls in this part of the world. For instance in waxing my legs, I would think it takes me much longer to wax than the average girl because of my leg’s length. But I would like to be informed beforehand, sweet potatoes.

What if the manager was overweight and she decided to get a massage at another establishment and the people there charges her an extra fee because she is a large factor in contributing to the massage table‘s ultimate destruction? How would she feel then? It’s not even about ethics, it’s about common business sense and respect for the feelings of others. If you own a business and had brains enough, you should know that deterioration of equipment is a fact of life and thus prices should be made to reflect that. And not just become the burden of some customers.

Wow. Some people.
