In Praise Of Avocados
If I had to eat only one fruit for the rest of my life, I would definitely pick avocados. I’ve loved the fruit since I was little, and nothing has beat it to the top of my list yet. Opening a perfectly ripe avocado is one of my small joys in life. Heck I’d marry one if it is possible! Aside from my favorite grain (corn) being my comfort food, avocados with lots of milk and sugar comes a close second. I also love guacamole, obviously. And avocado shake. And avocado-flavored ice cream. I’d actually die for that right now. You wanna know why avocados are the ultimate cool? They have health and beauty benefits!

Health-wise, my favorite fruit is a great source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, potassium, vitamin E, antioxidant and lutein (keeps eyes healthy, which is maybe why after so much reading in the dark and in moving vehicles, I still got a good eyesight). The fats in avocados are also mainly monounsaturated, which is really good for cardiovascular health. It’s like an affordable health insurance, only tastier!

How about beauty benefits? The vitamins found in avocado (C, A, K and E) are found to improve overall skin health and give a soft look and instant glow. No more expensive treatments at the salon. Just eat avocado regularly! It can also be used as a homemade facial cleansing mask, as a natural moisturizer and as an exfoliating scrub! I also just discovered that avocado can be used to make the hair softer and more elastic and also makes it less prone to breakage. I didn’t know that before, so I’m trying it out as soon as I can.
But wait (like in those home TV shopping segments. LOL)! Avocados are also good for the environment! Here’s what EatingWell.com says on the subject:
Good for the Environment: A mature avocado tree absorbs up to 2.6 tons of carbon dioxide per year—enough to offset 26,000 car miles. This makes avocados a more environmentally friendly source of fat than dairy, since a single cow produces the equivalent of about 2.75 tons of CO2 per year—so go for guacamole instead of sour cream on your taco!
Avocado blossoms are pollinated by honeybees, providing a bonus crop: reddish avocado honey.
Long-lived avocado trees can be productive for decades, creating a canopy and root system that maintains the soil and provides habitat for birds.
Is it still any wonder why I love avocados to bits?
