GT: Religious. Not.
Hello Girl Talkers! It’s another week of appreciating ourselves better, and this week’s theme is what we love about ourselves spiritually. I am not in any way religious, and personally think that spirituality does not equate to religion. That being said, you might have guessed that I refuse to be bounded by religious beliefs. I believe that there is a God, though, but I don’t believe that religion is the only thing that can let you experience God and spirituality.
To answer the question “Am I spiritual?”, my answer would be yes, if your definition of spirituality is the same as mine, which is having an intimate relationship with God outside the boundaries of traditional religion. I don’t treat Him as someone to be feared, rather, I know Him as my friend, my confidante, my shoulder to cry on when I feel frustrated and lost, my guiding voice.
Getting to live in a beautiful city also made me closer to Him, I guess. I mean, who else but God can make such majestic natural wonders? I never ceased to be awed by the beauty of nature, and like to be as close to it as much as possible, to have some time to meditate and soak in the wonderful feeling that it gives me whenever I look at how unbelievably beautiful our world is. It also made me more protective of the environment, and although I do not claim to be a full-blown environmentalist, I am more than ever aware of what and what not to do in order to contribute to the preservation of our physical surroundings.
I don’t profess to be pure at heart, or even good. But all I know is that there is a God, that miracles are true, that I can easily get lost in a moment of reverence for nature, and that I find peace in connecting with others and the world around me.
“Religion is not identical with spirituality; rather religion is the form spirituality takes in civilization”. ~ William Irwin Thompson, 1981.
But hey, that’s just me. Now we all wanna know how you are proud of yourself spiritually. Go on, bragging ain’t a sin this month, especially if it makes you appreciate yourself more, and learn from the experiences and stories of others! Don’t forget to link up the exact URL of your entry at the inlinkz form below so we can all read each others’ posts!
PS: We’re in the middle of packing (we’re moving to a new home later this week) so I might not be able to visit your entries early, but I promise I’ll read each and everyone whenever I get the chance!

After a long wait… I finally got the first slot…
Thanks K… di talaga ako natulog…
awww.. i didn’t get your message na on YM last night. fell asleep while trying to make Svet sleep. LOL. suri. ehe
Are you my identical twin? Cause that is what I feel now that I have read your entry <3 and I so scared to participate in this week's GT, cause I thought everyone would blame me for having my issues with religion. Guess I was wrong
I agree with everything you said! You don't need a community of people to help you bond with God. I so love what you wrote about the nature <3 Big times hifh five to that
i told you we’re spiritual sisters
mwah!
I’m not pure at heart din–ang dami kong kasalanan but I hope God will forgive me.Merong taong sabi na christian ‘daw’ sila but they don’t practice goodwill (alam mo na,hanggang sa salita, wala naman sa gawa–forgive me)while there are people na hinde naman masyadong religious but they do goodwill on their own special way.
I believe God is always there.
i hope we all do Sherry
I am not a religous girl to the extend of tenth power hihi.. madami din akong nagagawang mali:-( but I do belong to a ministry of praise and same as you I know that GOd is above any thing at all.
Happy Girls Talk Ms. Kaye ^.^
kalerkey. to the tenth power talaga. haha! we’re only human naman, kaya nagkakamali talaga tayo
we somehow share the same idea when it comes to spirituality. i’d be a hypocrite if i say that i religiously go to church every week. i don’t. but i believe in God and i try to develop a healthy relationship with Him. i revere Him but i don’t fear Him and instead, i talk to Him in prayers as i would to my best friend.:-)
korek bambs. it’s not physically going to church that counts, it’s what you do in your everyday life to yourself and to others that proves you worthy of God’s grace
very well said K …. lalo na ako hahaah… we all have different definitions of spirituality ..bottom line … we respect each others beliefs…
spot on vernz! that’s the most important thing; that even though we have different religious affiliations, we should not look down on each others’ beliefs, instead, we should just do what we can to be a better person
religion and spirituality are the last topic on earth that I want to discuss. but because of this theme this week and after reading other girls’ posts, i now realized that i am not lost and i want to thank you for that.
i don’t care about the church issues anymore. what matters now is my faith in HIM.
God bless you, K!
aww.. that’s great to know! church shouldn’t ever be an issue. now faith, that’s what we can all understand

ano ba yan, tuwing mag post ako dito kundi ako pang number 30 pang 29, hmp! Masyado namang deep ang entry mo Marce, di ko ma dig. I love the way you write, di ko keri..anyways,…parang no comment ata ako, wala akong masabi eh. ako kasi di man ako religious na tao, but I don’t do anything against the 10 commandments. so I guess, I still love me spiritually, kasi me takot ako sa Dyos at naniniwala ako na He exists. di ba??
sus sino bang religious? hindi rin naman ako. haha! and yesh marce. ang belief ko rin, what’s important is you believe in God and you try your best to do good to yourself and others
Hi K, thanks for the add linky. I owe you for that
Well, we all have different variety about our Faith in God. However, it does matter if we are religious or not. I just can’t imagine myself living a life without God. Anyway, we don’t have to judge other person based of her religion and how deep her spirituality is. We’ll just have to respect how serious other people are. Good for you that you believe that there is God. I like that.
no prob Mel. i was online so i thought i’d add your link already
very well-written! I agree with you marce about being religious and religions…I’m not religious but I do have a relationship with our creator. My being a Christian is not about religion or philosophy but a relationship and lifestyle-the core of that lifestyle is thinking of others as jesus did instead of ourselves.I really love the way you write this ” I don’t treat Him as someone to be feared, rather, I know Him as my friend, my confidante, my shoulder to cry on when I feel frustrated and lost, my guiding voice”…i totally agree with you marce and I’m so blessed with this post:)
Buti naman at nakahabol pa ako:)…advance happy birthday and hope sa “moving” ninyo everything will run smoothly..miss u and love you marce..see you next time 2 weeks pa daw before kami magkainternet, di pwede matransfer account ko we need to have a new tel.no and a new account..we’ll be starting from scratch again…Happy day to you:)
thanks for the greeting marce! and i really, really hope that you get your connection by the end of two weeks! mishu! mwah!
marce, pasencya na late entry ko. pero love kita kaya nakihabol. wahehee!oks lang yan kasi di ka religious… as long as you recognize a God. and the wonders of nature is God’s way of telling us that He loves us.
korek na korek ka marce! at i love you talaga kasi love mo din ako. haha! thanks marce!
dapat *kahit yan hindi *kasi… churi!
naks. you’re your own proofreader ha? LOL
Late nanaman ako mare, please forgive me hehe.[Like you hindi rin ako reliiyosang tao but then masasabi ko na may takot ako sa Diyos & may RESPETO sa kapwa & sa sarili
Sana makajoin ulit next week.Hindi ako nakahabol the last time eh.
hey, that’s perfectly fine! there are no pressures to join every week. i know you’re a very busy businesswoman and mom to your kids, and i totally understand *hugs*
RESPECT. that’s the bottom line, i agree.
So, I’m probably going to be considered the outsider once I say this but I must.
While you are correct that spirituality and religion have nothing to do with each other. I wholeheartedly disagree that church has nothing to do with being spiritual.
In God’s Word, the Bible He clearly says to forsake not the assembling of yourselves together with other believers.
Also, to be spiritual you need to know God’s Word and live it. No Word and you have no faith. No faith and you can’t possibly be as spiritual as you think.
Most important of all is do you need Jesus? Who has pardoned your sins? You do know that you will stand before God and give an account to Him for everything you’ve ever done right?
Something to think about. I didn’t come here to get into a virtual argument about God. I know He’s real and I know He speaks through His Word and other people.
Take Care,
Michelle
P.S, just wanted to say I enjoy reading your beauty musings and that’s why I’m actually here
first off, i believe i didn’t mention that “church has nothing to do with being spiritual”. i may have said that spirituality does not equate to religion, but that just means religion is not the entirety of the whole spirituality equation. there are other facets to spirituality than religion itself. in my opinion at least.
and in that note i would like to say that i respect how you feel about religion, and i regret that we don’t feel the same about some things, but i am glad you commented here to let us know how you feel
thank you for reading my other posts as well
this is a great site!
